The same 5-day bucket list as this page — perfect for WhatsApp, email, or printing.
Bilingual A4 booklets. Interactive map and live updates stay on the website.
Twin crater lakes, jaw-dropping viewpoints, a thermal ocean pool, and the island's most iconic sunset.
Pro Tip
Start early (before 9 AM) to beat the crowds at Vista do Rei. Fog often clears by mid-morning. Bring layers — the crater rim is windy. End at Mosteiros for the best sunset dinner on the island.
Morning whale watching, São Miguel's wildest volcano, natural hot springs, and Europe's only tea plantation.
Pro Tip
Book whale watching early — morning departures (08:30) have the calmest seas. If weather cancels, the operator reschedules to Day 3 or 4. After Caldeira Velha and Salto do Cabrito, head to Lagoa do Fogo only in clear weather. Bring swimwear for the hot springs and Santa Bárbara.
Bubbling caldeiras, volcanic stew, lush gardens, hidden crater lakes, and the island's best hot springs after dark.
Pro Tip
Book Poça da Dona Beija for after 6 PM — the atmosphere under the night sky is magical. Prices, opening hours, and visit-time rules change often; confirm everything on the official website before you book. Have lunch at Tony's for Cozido das Furnas — book ahead! Start at Lagoa do Congro early for easier parking.
Jungle trails, hidden waterfalls, dramatic cliffs, the oldest lighthouse, and São Miguel's most peaceful corner.
Pro Tip
Wear waterproof trail shoes for Salto do Prego — the path is slippery. Start early to have time for the full Nordeste coast. Check live webcams (e.g. SpotAzores) before Salto do Cavalo or Nordeste — fog can wipe out the view. Pack swimwear — the pool under the falls is swimmable and Praia do Fogo has volcanic hot sand.
Market & cheese in Ponta Delgada, Vila Franca do Campo on the south shore, then north to Porto Formoso parish (Praia dos Moinhos thermal beach), pottery and Lagoa, a final viewpoint, and farewell dinner in the capital. Aligned with Welcome Book v2 (islet not in the base route).
Pro Tip
Start early at Mercado da Graça and Rei dos Queijos. Between Vila Franca and Lagoa, allow time to drive up to the north coast at Porto Formoso (Praia dos Moinhos). Cerâmica Vieira closes at 5 PM. The Ermida staircase is steep — wear comfortable shoes.

Essential for exploring São Miguel. Public transport is very limited. Book in advance during summer — from €25/day.
Microclimates change fast — pack layers, a waterproof jacket, and sun protection. You may experience 4 seasons in one day.
Hot springs (Poça da Dona Beija), whale watching, and popular restaurants require advance booking, especially May–September.
Many trails are muddy and slippery year-round. Waterproof hiking shoes with good grip are a must for Salto do Prego and Sete Cidades trails.
Most places accept cards, but carry some cash for small cafés, parking meters, and rural vendors.
May to September for warmest weather (20–26°C). March–April for whale migration. Year-round for hot springs and green landscapes.
Weather shifts valley by valley. Before driving to Sete Cidades, Lagoa do Fogo, or Nordeste, check live island webcams (e.g. SpotAzores) for that area — if it is socked in with fog, swap the day's order and chase sunshine elsewhere.
